The 100% pure silk scarves available from Hand made Nepal UK are made by the Maheela Cooperative in Kathmandu. Established in 2000 the cooperative is a social enterprise  providing training, jobs and fair working conditions for around 80 disadvantaged Nepalese women. 60% of the cooperartive's profits go to the Women’s Foundation Nepal (WFN) allowing them to finance various projects (shelters, legal assistance, trainings, micro-credit schemes, etc) in a sustainable way. Half of the remaining profits are given to the women with the other half covering ongoing expenses.
